How do I stop the pain in my ring finger?

The pain only comes when i bend the stop section of my ring finger (the one with my nail). I don't know why it is hurting. One day I was playing guitar it it just came out of nowhere. Can somebody please tell me how to stop this pain? It's preventing me from playing guitar. Thanks.
